I have been a resident of Holladay since 1948, where I attended grades 3-6 at Holladay Elementary School. I first began to appreciate the joy and love of art when my teacher posted my pencil drawings on the front wall. At Olympus Jr. High I had an art teacher by the name of Miss Bailey, who gave me A’s in art and did a lot to encourage me to do better. At Olympus High School, Lorin Folland was my art teacher for three years. He was well respected as an accomplished artist in the state of Utah, and was a major influence on my art experience.
I attended Dixie Jr. College in St. George for two years, where I took art instructions from Gerald Olsen, and then I attended and graduated from the U of U, but not in art. Later in life I took classes from the U of U art department and also from Salt Lake Community College.
After 44 years of marriage, my wife asked me if I would paint her a picture of some of her favorite vegetables. It was in 2010 that I picked up a brush and painted her a portrait of some tomatoes. That was my first painting since I left college, but it became the beginning of my new art adventures because of the many compliments I received after doing the tomatoes.
