Creative Aging

Creative Aging is quality arts education for older adults. Workshops are anti-ageist, non-discriminatory, and succeed in enriching the lives of older adults because they are designed by professional teaching artists, include intentional social engagement and focus on building art-making skills over time.

Holladay Arts hosts one sequential creative aging workshop annually. Registration for the 2024 creative aging workshop opens in February 2024.

Workshop DescriptionBuild your courage to share your stories. You will participate in a circle of whole-hearted listening and practice imperfect story sharing in a brave space led by experienced storytelling facilitator, Nan Seymour. You will be supported by guided writing prompts and friendly invitation to speak of memories. At our last gathering, participants will have the opportunity to share a story with invited guests. This activity, like all invitations in the course, is completely optional. Come as you are, and you will be met where you are! No experience required. Everyone is welcome! All you need is just enough courage to get through the door. After that, we’ll be in it together and cheering each other on. Enjoy this warm-hearted opportunity to connect in a meaningful and authentic way.

About the Teaching Artist
Nan Seymour is an experienced and accomplished local writer/storyteller. In the summer of 2023, Nan was chosen by Salt Lake City Mayor, Erin Mendenhall, for a Mayor's Artist Award. Nan created the practice of River Writing in order to foster voice and authentic connection. Working with Holladay Arts Council's previous creative aging workshops, and as an experienced story-circle facilitator, she has successfully encouraged students to write and share their stories -- even amidst significant student anxieties. She believes everyone has stories no one else can tell, and she's devoted to helping her students find, shape and share them.
