Holladay's home for the arts!
Holladay's home for the arts!
Classes will be held at City Hall, every Tuesday and Thursday (April 4, 6,11,13,18, 20, 25, 27); 4-6 pm
Registration form available March 1st - Class size limited to 10 participants
Taught by Holladay artist Jim McGee and writer Nan Seymour.
Participants in the workshop will both write and create visual art about the process of growing older, how their personal experiences may differ from cultural norms, and what strengths they can employ to create a dynamic narrative of elderhood. Students will have the opportunity to contribute their writing to a group chap book, and to create a loosely-constructed self portrait on a 16”x16” canvas using a variety of techniques taught in class. The self-portraits will be displayed in City Hall during the month of May, with an opening reception and an optional opportunity to read written work aloud.
This is an intensive, eight-session workshop that will encourage participants to share symbolic components of their identities and translate them into powerful works of art. At the conclusion of the workshop, you will be practiced at overcoming the tyranny of perfectionism and experience the pleasure and authentic connection that comes from writing in community. You will also learn a variety of art techniques in order to create your self-portrait. Your writings and portraits will be celebrated through publishing a chap book and holding an opening reception for an exhibit during the month of May at City Hall.
Class size is limited to 10 participants. The registration form (available March 1) will ask you to explain why you would like to participate in this workshop. If we receive entries from more than 10 people, we will evaluate the responses to this question and strive to form a group of diverse, engaging, and committed students. We may also give preference to new participants who did not attend last year's workshop.
